APA Pain Physiotherapist (Independent Contractor)
Mel is a graduate from Curtin University with 20+ years’ experience working as a physiotherapist treating people with musculoskeletal conditions in the UK and Australia.
Mel was attached to Fremantle Hospital Pain Medicine Unit for several years where she was extensively involved in the management of patients with chronic pain, both individually and in groups.
Mel is passionate about pain management and completed a Master of Science in Medicine (Pain Management) via the University of Sydney and is a titled APA Pain Physiotherapist.
Mel is attached to AOWA (Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA) in the role of “Pain Educator” where she delivers professional development education to health professionals in rural and remote locations around WA.
Mel is the current chair of the WA branch of the APA National Pain Group and has co-authored several journal articles and a book chapter – her latest research is focused on “improving clinical outcomes through therapeutic engagement.” Her expertise in this area has meant she has assisted many compensable clients who have become “stuck” to move forward in their recovery.
Mel has a passion for both pain research and travel and combines the two by regularly attending national and international conferences. Outside of work, Mel enjoys coastal walks, the gym and spending time with her recently adopted cat, Gary.
